Sherrilyn Hicks is a Public Service Professional and Human Resources Leader with 28+ years in the Workforce Development industry. She also has progressive experience in organizational leadership.
Ms. Hicks joined the City of Richmond in 2013 as a Workforce Development Employment Specialist for the Center for Workforce Innovation. A seasoned entrepreneur, Ms. Hicks has owned and operated several state-licensed programs under Virginia State licensing regulations and policies for residential, behavioral health, and social service programs. Currently, she serves as a Program Coordinator, Wealth Building Initiatives for the Office of Community Wealth Building.
Today, Ms. Hicks is actively engaged with area community partners, fulfilling requests for financial empowerment awareness, budgeting, food insecurities, homeownership, entrepreneurship/social enterprise. She has worked directly with programs that serve the needs of job seekers with limited or no work experience and the needs of private - and public-sector employers. Ms. Hicks’ passion for helping others stems from her values and a desire to see others succeed. Her motto is: Learn Daily; Explore Opportunities; Advocate; Support Others; Motivate; Inspire and Share with Others the Experience!
Ms. Hicks holds a dual MBA degree in Business Administration and Human Resource Management from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Arts & Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and Public Relations from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina. Ms. Hicks also obtained a Certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College. She is an avid entrepreneur.
Ms. Hicks is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), National Association of Workforce Development Professionals, National Notary Association, Vice --President of the Richmond Adult Technical Center Advisory Board, WomenRise Committee Member, Boad Member of Peoples Advantage Helping Hands, Board Member KARE-RVA, and Business Manager for Richmond Supreme Ladies Motorcycle Club, Inc.
